Challenges that face Free education
Free education in South Africa is a goal worth pursuing, especially for students who are poor and want access to tertiary institutions and those who correctly see it as a right  and development for a country. The huge challenge is making the slogan of free education a reality. There is not enough money from any source and government  as the biggest subsidy provider is not doing well. South Africa is lowest in world terms for tertiary funding. There are many problems for the government, including the state of the world economy which ensures that there is not enough money yet it needs tertiary graduates for developing the country.Department of Basic Education - Official Site

Recommendations
  • It recommends that government increase its expenditure on higher education and training.
  • It also recommends that the National student aid financial scheme(NSFAS) be replaced by an income contingent loan system(ICL) that would be government backed loans that would only need to be repaid at a specific income level.NSFAS to fund more than 400‚000 students this year
  • The report recommended the scrapping registration fee across the board in higher education.
  • The TVET college students receive fully subsidised education.

    Some students don't even go to school because their parents can't afford tuition fees

  9. I am not sure if we ready for Free Education. Let's look at the public health service? Let's look at the public schools? Does our government have a proper working system? If only we can start by correcting those departments and find a working formula, I can then support free education.
